Officials say it could reach as high as 12 feet in some areas of New Orleans, possibly leading to high winds and the flash flooding of flood water.

The president directed federal agencies to assist with evacuations.

At least one person died and eight others suffered minor injuries after waters rose over storm-wrecked homes in Houston on Sunday, the city’s emergency manager said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was briefed on the disaster by the head of FEMA, Brock Long, and Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Sunday night as Trump’s declaration came out.
